crap-o-rama so one of my profs just accidentally sent an email with her exam questions attached. she meant to send it just to the other profs for the class, but she accidentally also sent it to my entire class. i havent read them, but i know some a-holes will and now she will have to write all new questions, and i bet they will be even harder than before. gah!

nah, not really its more that if i dont really learn this stuff it will cost a sentient being its life. really. its not really about being rewarded for honesty. its about my true and deep understanding of the material.

Would she expect you NOT to open it? Either way, I would open it just to get an idea of what the first draft of her test looked like. She will figure it out and write a new test but chances are she will keep the same format just alter or change the questions. Depending on the subject matter. For example, a math or science test could be kept in the same format but she could just change the numbers and the ordering of the problems. An essay-type test needs whole new questions - lots tougher in my opinion. I am curious - how does a prof 'accidentally' send out test questions to students? I'm not being snarky here I am really curious. I email students and other profs all the time and I have never crossed the paths of the two.

uh, yeah. we are in a professional program. we will be dealing with life or death issues. it is absolutely imperative that we adhere to a professional code of conduct, not only for our future patients and clients, but for the integrity of our profession. so yeah, i think its absolutely reasonable for her to expect us not to open it. unfortunately, not all of us are going to be honest and fair. and since we get bungloads of emails a day via our school email addy, many of us would scan the email, assume they were simply study questions and open the silly attachments, even if we didnt mean to. and i could see her making a mistake. being a resident researcher frantiy trying to get everything done before catching a flight to a professional conference, i could see her including one teeny tiny extra email address in her list. (you can send email to the entire class with only one address) and this is short answer/essay type exam material. so yeah, it might become tougher. or she could be too busy giving lectures at her conference and not be able to re-write the exam. bah! off to the lab with me! chicken and horse guts here i come!

I was just thinking there is no way she will know who may have opened it and when she figures it out she will rewrite the test. [If I mixed up my CC shit while emailing people I would assume someone accidentally (and I do mean accidentally not *accidantally*) opened it and immediately rewrite it.] I didn't mean to imply that you behave unethiy. But I guess I was saying that I probably would. Huh. Never thought of it that way. I have never had a prof accidentally email me a test. If it ever happens I will now think twice. Have fun in that lab.

I'd like to think I wouldn't open it but I know myself better. I'd start thinking about the people I knew for sure would open it, and then I'd be pissed that they'd have an edge, and then, well... Feisty, you're a class act.
