For cell phones, yes. Others are different area codes.

You should check if you’d save $$$ by changing your cell numbers. When I moved to a different area code I kept my cell # but the taxes and surcharged remained the same. It turns out my bill dropped by over 30% for the same service when I switched numbers to my new area code. Plus I my cell # from a land line to find my cell because I never remember where I left it, and I got tired of being charged for a long distance just to find my cell in the next room.

Yes, and there’s a very good reason. Land lines still function in a power outage and in an emergency, the 911 operator immediately knows your location. No other option can provide these capabilities. And my BF has a whole collection of historic phones and they’re all over the house. When someone s a physical bell rings in just about every room.
