The LG community has down played
Silvia Revira's part in the NYC post Stonewall movement. Just after the riot, the movement was largely driven by a complex mix of L's G's amd T's. At the time, Just about the only thing a trans woman could do to support herself was sex work on the streets. It was a very hard life and they looked and acted like it. This really put off the more mainstream mostly gay men, men that were largely closeted when it suited their needs. The trans women were pushed out of the movement. I have no idea how Mr. Carter treated this aspect of intra community relations, and I can not condone disruptive behavior, but likely the protesters have a valid point. For what it is worth, the first riot was 3 years before in SF. Called the Compton Cafiteria Riots, and it resulted in the GL leasion unit of the SF police department. It was the model all other police departments used to respond to pressure about harrasment of the LGBT commnuity. This was usually the first thing a jurisdiction did when pressured. What differed about Stonewall, was the group it energized was not satisfied by just a reduction of police harresment.
